Ok so remember last week we cleaned out parts of our washers on Instagram? Gross, right I know. This week we are going to take it a step further and deep clean our towels. Do you ever feel like your towels smell even after you have cleaned out your washer? You may need to strip your laundry.

A stinky smelling towel is a sure fire way to get a mound of “clean clothes” thrown back into the laundry basket. Not only does it drive me crazy but it’s actually kinda gross. Apparently this was some sort of trend on Tiktok but I must have missed it while trying to learn the Renagade dance this summer LOL There’s a really simple fix for all of this. Not only is it inexpensive but it’s insanely easy. stripping your towels with baking soda and vinegar.

Why do you need to strip your laundry?

Did you know that use after use a towel will develop a build up of fabric softener, laundry detergent and body oils in the actual threads? Even if you use mostly natural products this can also happen with “hard water”.

Over time not only will your towels begin to smell funky but they might also become less absorbent. P.S. If you STILL have a weird smell in your bathroom after doing this trick check out this post about bathroom smell hacks.

How do I strip my laundry and deep clean my towels?

The steps are easy and there are couple ways you can do it. Either fill your bathtub with both products plus hot water until everything is submerged or do it n the washer. Now, the trick is DO NOT use laundry soap during this process and make sure that the garments sit for AT LEAST 4 hours. If you do it in the washer just layer the ingredients along with your clothes and run the “soak” option. I use at least 3 cups of baking soda and 24 oz of cleaning vinegar.

After this process is complete you can run a normal load and voila, you’re done!
